I dropped it when trump was spewing his bs on it. My feed was 90% Trump bs and re-posts. I actively dumped fb, twitter and a few others back in 2019 and My life has been so much better since then.
Like he cares. He bought it for money and political reasons. And now, because of piss poor decisions, the company has been devalued from $44 billion it is now only worth about $4 billion. What makes it so sad is a lot of online companies are following suit thinking they can do what he couldn’t.
You do realize that X is now it’s official name right? Elon changed the name to X and deprecated the twitter name. At the end of the domain registration, he is not going to re-register twitter.com as the domain name, and because he owns the trademark on it, he is going to sue anyone who tries to re-use the domain name.

Yeah if you aren’t used to hurricanes it can be difficult. I learned that after I move to Texas and got hit with my first one. I grew up in the Midwest o I was used to tornadoes, but tropical storms and hurricanes were completely new to me.

very true, but if you remember correctly a similar thought process killed IE, and is now harming Edge on windows. The only draw back is everyone wants to use chrome, not realizing how much info they are handing out to Google. Many just don’t care, and yet they will gladly complain about privacy on other matters.

Microsoft’s edge browser is a fork of chromium, it’s not even first party anymore, like IE was.
I agree Firefox doesn’t have a large share of the browsers, but if you are basing it on user share then the only mainstream browsers are safari and chrome. However, the term third party is generally utilized as a fork of a primary access point or is the access point via another means, even if it’s original.
For example, the apps to access lemmy are third party as they are not created by the original devs for lemmy. In this argument FF is classified as first party not third.

How is Firefox a small 3rd party browser? FF is the basis for browsers like libreoffice, icewolf etc… it is not 3rd party, it is first party like chrome, opera and safari. Actually if you want to go that far, chrome actually started off as a fork of opera
That kinda follows the same question of why use windows. Some people that’s all they know, others still believe in the myth that GNU/Linux is only for geeks that want to be or are power users. Then there is the other faction that goes along the lines that there is no compatible alternative to what they use/ used to. A lot of alt programs still have a learning curve that is mostly caused by work flow muscle memory.
What makes ads a blight on websites is rather simple when you look at the scheme of things. I understand websites are reliant on monetary factors to keep running such as server costs etc. However, the caveat is balance. A user shouldn’t be inundated by huge amounts of ads. Some of the sites I go to you have pop up windows that show up randomly in the middle of an article as you’re reading, and hard to close without clicking on the ad. Kind of reminds me of back in the day when you would go to a page and the content was overshadowed by those glaring ads that would draw you to them away from the content you were Looking for. As a designer you should not have more ads than you do content. For example, when I left Reddit I was seeing ads on my feed at a rate of almost 1 ad for every 2 posts. That’s overkill. You only need 1 ad every 7 - 10 posts

Pretty much the only time we need passports is if we travel outside the U.S. and territories. Those that take cruises or cross borders to other countries would, but generally speaking a majority of Americans don’t have passports.
