MTK@lemmy.worldto Programming@programming.dev•This Overly Long Variable Name Could Have Been a Comment | Jonathan's Blog3·7 days agoMy philosophy is that anyone familiar with the code shouldn’t need the comments to understand it, and anyone who isn’t should be able to with the comments.
This means that I have semi long names like “this_variable_varies” would be about the max name size I would use. But I also use plenty of small functions and I use comments to explain big chunks of code with just a simple goal and method description.
I sometimes find my code a bit overly verbose, but I know I would rather see that then some code that I need to de-obfuscate mentally.

Yeah but it’s too realistic, I want something convenient! Let me read one book and gain the power to create floating ice! Not read like 5 giant books and stufy for years so that I can create a microwave 😔
No shade to microwaves, one of my favorite magic items
Just make the usb-c connector a circule and not an oval. I am guessing that the only reasons it isn’t circular is thinness (devices are thin and need thin connectors) and manufacturing costs (probably harder to get it circular with all of the inner pins)
Accidentally Capitalism towards workers?

Aren’t we all just one big brain defect?
It kills me that no matter what, it is always white and gold for me, EVEN THOUGH REALITY SAYS OTHERWISE!
I think they all have bomb shelters there and an early alert system
18% of israel is still 1.8 million people, that is a lot of people.
Idk, I think we should have sympathy for people being kill because of war at all times.
I don’t know who lived in the place that was bombed there, but unless I have reason to believe that that person is somehow responsible for the genocide, why would I hate them?
Israel is obviously filled with genocidal people, and those who support genocide are not going to get my sympathy, but there are those who are actively fighting it even. So I do feel sympathy for innocent people dying because of genocidal governments and their need to bomb every living thing around them.
The balls to brains ration must be close to infinite on the person who filmed this.
MTK@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What game changing item*s can you buy for $100 or less?201·26 days agoAny basic ear plugs, literally $2 to make the world nicer, to sleep better in loud situations, to protect your hearing, to prevent infections in pools, and more.
You don’t realize how much nicer the world is when it’s like 15db quiter, especially when you are in a city.
My personal best is $4K because of one unchecked option.

MTK@lemmy.worldto Programming@programming.dev•Trusting your own judgement on 'AI' is a huge risk1·30 days agoThat is actually missing an important issue, hallucinations.
Copying from SO means you are copying from a human who might be stupid or lie but rarely spews out plausible sounding hot garbage (not never though) and because of other users voting and reputation etc etc, you actually do endup with a decently reliable source.
With an LLM you could get something made up based on nothing related to the real world. The LLM might find your question to be outside of it’s knowledge but instead of realizing it it would just make up what it thinks sounds convincing.
It would be like if you asked me how that animal that is half horse and half donkey is called and instead of saying “shit i’m blanking” I would say “Oh, that is called a Drog” and I couldn’t even tell you that I just made up that word because I will now be convinced that this is factual. Btw it’s “mule”
So there is a real difference until we solve hallucinations, which right now doesn’t seem solvable but at best reduced to insignificance (maybe)
Epoch, takes a bit of practice but I already read it fluently and often make fun of everyone arpund me for not knowing how to read a clock (my clock)
If you are programming on a computer and not punching holes in paper you are just a little bitch script kiddy.
