Programming@programming.dev•Self terminating container images for real world dependencies to support your unit testsEnglish
11·2 years agoI’m reading this scratching my head going “If your unit tests need a database they ain’t a unit test”.

Programming@programming.dev•Solved: How can containers be forced to use a VPN?English
16·2 years agoEasily doable in docker using the
network_mode: "service:VPN_CONTAINER"configuration (assuming your VPN is running as a container)

Technology@lemmy.ml•Bluesky and Mastodon users can now talk to each other with Bridgy FedEnglish
3·2 years agoIt’s unfortunate that (at least on the Bluesky side) an attempt at following a person doesn’t result in them getting a DM asking for that to be ok.
Which means following a person on Bluesky is not possible unless they’ve already opted in.
All I want to do is follow a couple of authors or content creators but none of them know what bridgy.fed is :(

Technology@lemmy.ml•Samsung forces repair stores to destroy customer smartphones, iFixit ends cooperationEnglish
891·2 years ago“…prohibits repair stores from repairing components on the mainboard. Instead, the entire component must be replaced…”
A flagrant disregard for the costs of e-waste on the environment. What a surprise.

3·2 years agoPrivately operated ICBM’s. I can’t see how that’ll fly but I look forward to finding out.
If you need something not on steam (GOG, Epic etc) you’ll also want Heroic Game Launcher which wraps those services in the same Steam Linux magic.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Blocking a user behaves more like mute. Proper blocking needed to prevent harassment.English
2·2 years agoAh, well that is indeed unfortunate and realistically also a bit shit.
Gonna go with… whoosh

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Blocking a user behaves more like mute. Proper blocking needed to prevent harassment.English
3·2 years agoActivityPub implementations generally don’t allow this.
This comment will, when I click ‘Reply’, be sent to your instance (dormi.zone), that instance should then run it’s filter/block checks on it and if it’s happy it will forward it onto the lemmy.ml instance for further disemination amongst the subscribers of the group.
If you were to have blocked me then my reply will appear on my instance only (which is admitedly tiny - at 1 user) and go no further. This kind of falls apart if I were to be on a bigger instance as more people would see the reply.
That said, Lemmy may not be doing that quite right as the whole Groups/Communities thing is sort of an extension of the main protocol. I hope it’s doing it the right way.

295·2 years agoHe only wins internet clout if you know who he is. I didn’t. He was just that guy in the meme.
Now he’s been named at least two people, who didn’t know of his existence, now know.
You’ve just Barbara Streisand’ this guy.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Apple's Vision Pro headset deserves to be ridiculedEnglish
102·2 years agobut those concerns appeared to have disappeared by the time the Vision Pro and its two screens directly in front of users’ eyes took the (virtual) stage.
Lost me here. The focal distance of those screens is not 2cm. Unlike the phone you hold 25cm from your face, when you’re lying in bed at night failing to sleep, they have clever lenses and shit.
Annoyed that this didn’t pull the thumbnail. Boo

I need sound with this.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•New instance: issues subscribing to beehaw communitiesEnglish
1·2 years agoMmm. The issue in this case is that it appears it’s only beehaw communities that do it. Everything else is working fine.
I’ve unsubbed/subbed quite a few times now. No change :(

It would be nice to have a much more aggressive anti-bot stance for communities/content that aren’t local. If google or any other crawler wants to crawl c/lemmy@lemmy.ml then it should do it on the source instance. Doing it on mine makes no sense.
