Linus: Linux is not one of those anti-AI projects, and if somebody has issues with that, they can do the open-source thing and fork it.

Cross-posted as part of ongoing boycotting/protest efforts to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to help vitilize and drive non-.ml comms and make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because of the behavior and attitudes of the .ml instance admins (see megathread link above)

ActivityPub (the protocol behind Mastodon, Pixelfed, Pleroma, and others) planned for the near future. Currently in alpha

If they do that, then it will be for sure, it’s still alpha so hopefully they mean it when they say “near future”

I’m heavily researching tape for my data, I currently sit around 400TBs Total but only around 200 in data that id actually want to backup and can’t just redownload.

Iirc the break even point 100-150TB

ETA: that break even point might actually be lower now that I think about it since that number is probably outdated when I did it and doesn’t account for the shortage crap

Has always been put in projects of this nature for as far back as I can remember, “Remember this is for educational purposes only!”, “This is intended for your LEGAL backups only!” Etc etc
