6·19 hours agoi actually don’t have a problem with HTML, i just think that instead of every app shipping their own copy of electron, the operating system should provide basic browser functionality.
OP is the femboy in the picture
as a debian user, i can confirm :)
You can’t say bad things about the government in China.
This might sound like an absurd restriction of free speech, but consider that it’s also considered highly illegal in germany to loudly ask for the abolishment of democracy. Many far-right groups do this, and the Verfassungsschutz (basically a kind of special police force) keeps a close eye on them because of that, calls them “verfassungsgefährdend” (going against the constitution). Monarchies like england had similar laws around 1900, where you could say everything except talk badly about the monarchy in power. That was known as the “english liberalism” because in many other countries, you could say even less. China does the same today, just that instead of the german constitution or the english monarchy it’s the Communist Party.
you’ve clearly never had a hot cousin
Thank you. I have been saying this for years (more than a decade now).
Feminism fought for the independence of women from abusive husbands/partners, by making them earn their own money, so they can be free. I would not say that the majority of the population feels particularly free today, because the economic situation strangles them. There is a new dependency created in stead of the old one: The dependency from the employer. Especially with at-will employment, a manager or higher-up can fire you at any moment, which can cause homelessness and despair. These are not good things that we want to have.
The logical consequence of fighting for freedom and equality is to fight for economic equality: People should be able to eat and sleep in peace, without having to worry about their circumstances tomorrow. “Equality” does not mean that everybody has the same amount, but that everybody has the chances they need to succeed in life.
We need a universal basic income, or any equivalent of it such as handouts in various forms.
yeah i’m guilty of it myself, i just posted politics article this morning, unfortunately. i guess i shouldn’t have done it.

3·20 days agowhere are you from, if i may ask?
Also as a side note, i would recommend new Linux users to not learn the command line. Do not touch the command line if you’re not sure what you’re doing. Like with a knife, it’s a powerful tool but you can also do a lot of harm with it if you don’t know exactly what you are doing.
Everything that most people need (web browsing, writing emails, watching movies, making presentations) can be done with graphical programs only. You shouldn’t ever need to touch the command line.
i think their entitlement largely comes from the fact that they were one of the few generation who actually had very prosperous lifes (things getting better after the war but still no shitty wages we see today) so obviously (to them) they must have done something right. And that’s why they try to share their great way of life (and doing things the right way) with everyone else, so everyone else can live a prosperous life too.
Problem is, their life wasn’t good because of what they did. It was good because they met exceptional circumstances in the world’s development where there was a lot of growth and innovation that actually improved people’s lifes. they just happened to live through it; it’s not their personal achievement.
proud Debian user here :)

2·30 days agoYeah I’m personally tending to always separate data and processing.
Data means you have an underlying data source (in lemmy’s case the set of all lemmy servers hosting lemmy communities), and a separate system that does search/recommendation based on the data.
The search/recommendation system would not store any data itself, but only filter and sort and process the data from the underlying servers and communities.

1·30 days agothanks! are multi-communities anything like sql virtual tables? i.e they appear as one community to the reader, but are the result of querying multiple communities

3·30 days agotags are (on other platforms) a part of a post’s content. This means that every user creating a post has to attach every tag that is relevant to the post, which could be a lot of effort if there are many tags available.
It would also be interesting if other users (e.g. moderators) could attach tags to a post, i.e. the post exists independent of the tags, and the tags get applied after the post is created.
the problem with custom keybindings i have is i work on a lot of different machines (i used 3 different desktop computers yesterday) and keybindings presumably only work on my machine.

not if it’s a library
