I 100% agree that a break isn’t a negative thing and I thank my mother in law every time she watches our kid.
Never in my life will being at work be better than being at home. Regardless, It’s the same guy who makes off hand comments like my wife “wears the pants” and “is the boss”. I use to ignore the comments and just carry on but I didn’t hold it in the last time.
In a similar vein, people who comment about work being a “break from the family”. I had my first kid a year or so ago and one person at my new job said how it must be nice to “get away for awhile”.
I actually said “no, I love my family and enjoy my home life.” They avoid me now.
I self host matrix.org synapse and bridge all my chats into this. I have a room for alerts and have any issues go into there. I get this on my phone, desktop, etc.
Aside from the notification part, I don’t want anything on my phone. If there’s an outage at 3am for my self hosted stuff, I’m not getting up, I don’t even want it to wake me up. I like sleep.
All I need is that initial notification and maybe a little extra context as to what it is. I need to determine if I’m going to fix it “soon” or if it can wait until I have free time. Doing anything else on my phone is a hard no. I need a keyboard and mouse.
When digging into the problem all I usually look at are the logs.
This feels like something the C levels are going to see and immediately tell everyone that the business needs to use it.

I found out about this a couple years ago when my wife started a conversation with me like “do you know some people can’t picture things?”. I had several follow up questions because I thought it was just a figure of speech for the first ~30 years of my life.
My internal voice is exactly like me speaking out loud. If I don’t “speak” in my mind there’s nothing, just like if I don’t speak I’m not saying anything out loud.

To me, this says, if you’re posting something behind a paywall (F/LOSS or not) they’re going to look at your post history. If you’re a shill, it will be removed. If you’re someone who self hosts and just wants to talk about self hosted apps, you’re fine.
Said another way, if all you do is post promo content it’s not welcome here. If it’s a one off then post it.
Look, if you don’t like the rule, make a suggestion to the mods on how to make it better. The spirit here is we all love learning and using new tools paid or not. If you want to share something new to you, like Plex, I’m 100% sure its fine. Post, promote what you love, start a conversation around Plex. The problem is if you only ever talk about Plex and promote it. It gets old FAST and it’s not a community I want to he apart of.
Symfonium is another paid example. Amazing app. Even with the new rules we can post about them. With that, I don’t understand your original complaint.

Yeah, I understand that. I was suggesting saying the same thing without the exception wording. In the end, it doesn’t stop us from talking about paid software. I use Plex, etc, etc, it’s the promotion that’s the problem… That being said, maybe I’ve misunderstood non_burglar’s complaint. Unless they are a closed source dev looking to promote.
I think that’s the important distinction to make. Maybe get rid of the f/loss exception and explicitly call out the paid aspect. If you’re here to promote software that’s pay walled you get the 10% rule.

I know it has been 3 days since you posted buy why not set up replication in the database it self? Sounds like you’re over complicating replication.
I run in k8s but I have a database with local disk, and I have another cronjob that takes a backup into the first database docker init folder. Older backups end with -date so they won’t get picked up by the init script. You can do similar with just docker.
I’ll echo everyone else. Database need local disk. I speak from experience of doing it over NFS. Even containers that have a hidden sqlite3 database should get local disk.
