The Slovenian government claimed last year that since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, it had halted entirely all defense purchases from Israel. However, according to official Slovenian data, the country purchased Israeli military equipment worth €828,000 (approximately $970,000, or ₪3,270,000) in 2024…

A closer look at Slovenia’s anti-tank arsenal reveals an even clearer Israeli connection. The Slovenian army’s anti-tank system relies on the “Spike” missile family, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, a government-owned Israeli company. Slovenia purchased the systems from Eurospike – 80 percent of whose shares are held by two large German companies, Rheinmetall (40 percent) and Diehl Group (40 percent), while the remaining 20 percent is owned by Ercas B.V., a holding company wholly owned by Rafael, registered in the Netherlands and operating from the U.K.

Slovenia’s Defense Ministry has allocated a total of approximately €35 million ($41 million, ₪140 million) for the purchase of Spike missile systems between 2022 and 2026. Last year, Slovenia invested €12 million in its anti-tank missile arsenal. This year, an investment of €8 million is planned, and in 2026, Slovenia will invest at least €3 million.
