A data center is a warehouse-size building that holds a sea of computer servers that run day and night, collecting, processing and storing data for the internet. Giant ones are needed to run A.I. models that teach computers to think like humans.

They absolutely do not. They do not think like humans. They do nothing of the sort, not even close. We need to crush this marketing narrative.

A stochastic parrot does not think like a human.

Insult to injury but those giant AI datacenters are really only needed to train the models, not actually run them.

All they really need is some conventional high bandwidth interconnect GPU servers and some quantization magic to run in a regular old data center.

100% agree. “AI” as it’s considered currently hits us humans like a Turing Test. It’s good enough that it makes our lizard brains think that maybe it’s a person, even though it becomes increasingly obvious that it isn’t as you use it.

Explains a lot about US politics as well doesn’t it?

The electoral system was designed for rich white landowners. They were expected to be educated and active in politics as part of their place. The system as designed, expects an educated electorate. As voting rights have been extended, the underlying system is still based on that fundamental assumption that no longer applies.
