If you buy a different set of tires they fit the wheels just fine but the hubcaps no longer do. It just affect aesthetics and probably aerodynamics.

they aren’t tied to the wheel, just the hubcaps. If you want to run it without the hubcaps, you can put whatever tire you want on it.
