I memorized 100 digits some years ago using physical memory. I would type the digits of pi on the numpad and memorize the movements of my hand, how it feels and which button goes when by position. Then when I would have to recite it, I’d imagine a numpad, move my hand and just say the number that corresponds to the imaginary button I’m pressing.

Don’t know if that could work for 70k digits though

Just finished watching it, and honestly that’s the idea I got after those red flags that jumpscared me when I was watching that linux sucks video. I think I watched them up until 2018, and I remember finding them entertaining and they always ended on a postive note, but I knew absolutely nothing about Lunduke apart from those 4 or 5 videos, that’s why I was so shocked to find out that he’s a generic right wing parrot.

I really liked his “Linux sucks” presentations when I watched them many years ago, but I didn’t know anything about him beyond that. Then some time last year I saw that he made another one, and I decided to watch it mainly for nostalgia, and I was shocked to see so many points about how linux companies are woke, something about opensuse firing anyone who was right-wing and redhat doing some white shaming move or something. I paused, checked his actual channel and holy shit. More than 90% was anti-woke “journalism”, and has been for years now. I was severely disappointed.

lol, actually, good science would be on the left side of the image, at least after giving an answer to a question. Good science will actually prove something, then give the answer, then have no reason to continue to find another answer for it (whatever the issue is.) If you are giving a different answer year after year (like say for the age of the earth), then aren’t you admitting that so far you haven’t known the answer?

That’s not really the take of the modern philosophy of science. All modern schools of thought when it comes to science have the acceptance of falsehoods embedded into their nodels. I’ll give a few examples:

Karl Popper famously stated that science cannot prove that anything is true, only that something is false. Thus, any scientific theory that’s still accepted is regarded as not yet being proven wrong. Science is just a cycle of giving theories, proving them wrong, giving new ones to account for the problem of the old one and so on, ever getting closer to the truth, but never arriving.

Thomas Kuhn wrote about scientific paradigms, which are models of the field in question that every scientist uses (for example Aristotelian motion, which was surpassed by Newtonian mechanics, which were surpassed by Einstein’s relativity). During the period of “normal science”, scientists are using their established methods until they end up with too many problems they cannot resolve, at which point it is accepted that the paradigm cannot hold up, and a scientific revolution needs to bring forth a new paradigm, that is incomparable with the old one. Some knowledge is lost in this process, but we move on until the next crisis.

Paul Feyerabend wrote about countet-induction, which prevents science becoming a dogma. An example he gives is Copernicus going completely against the science of his time with his heliocentric system. The Ptolemaic system was as cutting edge science back then as quantum mechanics is today.

All in all, findings being continuously disproven and replaced by new ones is not bad science, it is science. Achieving actual, “true”, positive knowledge of the world, documenting it and saying “that’s it, we solved this problem, we’re done” is not something modern science event attempts at.

The part about the sonic cannon cannot be stressed enough. People were literally standing still in silence and our psychopathic overlord hit the crowded streets with a sonic cannon which could’ve very very easily created a stampede that would have led to thousdands of injuries and possibly even deaths. Honestly we were lucky that enough people managed to calm down and stop running after a few seconds.

Update: this has been popping in and out of my head ever since I saw it, and I started learning Rust yesterday. They have won.

Exactly my experience. I often heard stories of vegans being like that, but I never ever saw it so I thought it was just made up to belittle vegans.

Then I joined lemmy and found out that I’m apparently in favour of massacres, slavery and rape because I consume meat/milk/eggs from time to time.

I imagine the vast majority of vegans just go about their lives and resprectfully discuss the ethics of animal consumption when the topic comes up, but these loud militant members really make vegans look bad and they sure as hell make it so that even less people consider going vegan

I have the opposite situation, I had to willingly stop myself from typing :w while using Word. And I installed the vim extension in vscode, which leads to me typing :w when using someone else’s setup.

Don’t know about other genres, but in metal you still have a lot of bands that make complex and beautiful music (especially in symphonic metal), but not as many people listen to that, and often not because they don’t know about alternatives. My own brother listens to mumble rap and other rappers that write lyrics that can be rearranged and you wouldn’t notice because the only thing they do is rhyme, without building up to anything, and it’s his choice, he likes listening to the same two songs in 50 variants.

It is very easy to find smaller bands that produce music with actual effort, and you can shove crappy music all you want to someone who doesn’t like it, and it won’t magically make them a fan, so the prevalence of autotuned simulations of strokes are due to people actually liking them, no?

I try not to judge these people too much because I myself often listen to extreme trve kvlt black metal which sounds like a vacuum cleaner to the uninitiated, so I tell myself that it’s something like that. I never convince myself of that, but I try.

I fought him so many times I practically memorized everything he can do and how to spot it. It’s a great fight because he’s essentially all the previous berserkers in one. Tye Valkyrie queen defeated me though. I did everything you can do in the game besides beating her.

Eveyone needs it. Aristotle starts out his Nicomachean ethics stating that virtuous acts are first and foremost for the benefit of the virtuous person.

Platonic ethics should also really be taught widely, even more so than Aristotle’s because they’re easier to receive. Even if he has some hard to accept views such as that commiting injustice is worse than suffering it, everyone would benefit if children grew up with the notion that everyone does what they think best, and that those who do “wrong” things do so out of ignorance of what is good, rather than what we currently have where everyone knows what is objectively good, and those who don’t do it are willfully wrongdoers and you just need to punish them enough and they’ll become good.

Although you can have the best educational plans in the galaxy if the educarional system is crap. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but where I’m from all education from primary school to a master’s degree is just a bunch of information being thrown at you with 0 context and reasoning behind it, and when you’re able to reproduce that information on demand (without any context): congratz, you’re educated!
