  • My cat somehow managed to run a mouse up to the ceiling just yesterday.

I have a wall tapestry that goes to the ceiling above a dresser, which is about 3.5-4 foot tall? The tapestry only goes to the top of the dresser, and the dresser is like 2 inches off the wall (old baseboard resistive heater).

I woke up to the cat pawing at the tapestry, can’t have that. Turn on the light and see a mouse at the very top. Just chilling up there.

Caught it and threw it over the fence into my dick neighbor’s plants, where they all go. (I have a really old house, this happens)

  • The only stickers I buy are for my kegerator and my 2-gallon ukeg growler from the breweries I visit in my travels… so those go on pretty much right away, unless I forget them.

Sure, if they aren’t just round I have to think about where to put them, to fill as many gaps as possible, but that’s about it.

What sort of places is everyone else throwing stickers?

  • I did this drunk the other day… apparently.

I mean I live alone and my cats aren’t helpful so I imagine it was me, but I have basically no memory of doing anything. I recently cut my drinking way way way down (from near-daily binge drinking to 2-4x/mth binge drinking and nothing other days), so maybe this was my drunk self trying to plea usefulness so I don’t abandon it entirely.

I woke up to a reasonably clean kitchen, living room, and nightstand, plus a hangover. These are not small tasks (as evidenced by the fact I didn’t do them sober), so really I just need to sort out the hangover thing and bam, adhd solution. Or something.

  • Speaking from experience, it functionally ruined them, at least the early macs -exact os/model unknown- we had (school computers well behind the curve and all). They’d need to be reformatted after. It would delete, then iirc just crash and you’d reboot into errors (my memory of this is spotty, it was a very long time ago)

I used to do that in the computer lab when I was supposed to be doing typing practice. Fucking hate typing “properly”.

Note: I am not a verifiable source, this is anecdata.

Eclipses happen every year like clockwork (it basically is clockwork, but on a huge scale). Eclipse seasons are spring and fall, around the equinoxes. You could very easily fly to see a total eclipse every few years if you want to, because we know when they are going to happen and where will have totality - it’s very routine stuff. There’s literally nothing special at all about the one that just happened, except that a lot of people haven’t seen one before because it hasn’t happened -at that location- in a time.

So no, absolutely not something you’ll never get a chance to see again, tho you won’t be able if you go blind like a fucking moron.

  • I’m not married and somehow still do this?

Like I just bought myself a new bed frame and omg I’m just dying to have my partner over to see it once it’s set up (my … 37 yo self - fuck, that’s right - feels so adult!)… like ooh idk surprise I guess? The birthday fairy left it for me? Don’t judge my spending. It’s precious. My precious.

  • That raises more questions than it answers for me, but I feel like an intro to docker course would probably solve some of that so I’m not going to bother asking. 😅

Thank you for shattering my perception ahead of time 😊 it’s been on my to-do list for a solid while but I’m not all that techie so it’s gunna be a bit yet I’m sure before I really understand that answer.

What’s the perk of three? Different use-cases for yourself, people unable/unwilling to access?

Like if I set up jellyfin, I’d leave Plex going for the ease of use for a few home users who frankly I’m surprised remember it exists and is installed on their iPads… but nonetheless occasionally watch movies on it.

Beyond my other users (this spurred me to check logs and I do have people using m Plex!!! 🥰), the jelly would mostly be for me, unless it has apps? And even then probably a handful would be willing to change.

But what about that third one, emby? What’s that do for you? I’ve not heard of it so I’m curious

Also how can those run in dockers? Aren’t those containers supposed to be, like, sandboxed or whatever? (I know nothing about docker but I guess I have to learn it for some of the things I want to do related indirectly to this, even tho I’m totally unprepared for that task…)

I still use Plex but I’m considering a concurrent jellyfin server for when it inevitably enshitifies in ways I can’t tolerate.

I paid for a lifetime like 10 years ago so I def got my money worth, and it costs me nothing to keep using now… but I don’t want all my eggs in one basket.

As the server owner, I’ve disabled all of plex’s self-promotional bullshit for now… and the only people who actually use my server are “home” users, which I have control over, so it’s just not an issue for any of them. Yet.
