I don’t know what was going on behind the scenes but as a user of their mail app it felt barebones. So to see them working on a full rewrite for years instead of moving forward is kinda surprising. Like bro its a mail app features are more important than speed or memory safety.

Film is a great way to show you an experience that may expand your perspective. The viewer is usually challenged by this as they have to empathise with a person outside of their comfort zone.

A good example is when a character first comes off as bad and you have to really feel his situation and empathise with him to understand why he made the choices he did and two people might walk away thinking different things about if he was right or wrong. This is a lot more involved than non challenging films where the intentions are out in the open.

Theyre fun if you’re in the mood but theres nothing wrong with chucking on something mindless, entertaining and enjoying.

I dont feel the need to tie myself into knots trying to dodge piracy or justify it. I pirate because i dont like these companies and dont want to pay for their product. It doesnt matter how easy it is to access all that matters is the licensing and the intent of the rightsholder to distribute it.

Does it need to be 1:1 to be considered as easy? Putting files on a cd is easy. It takes less than a min to figure it out for a new person. Same for USB.

You can mount and write to CDs like as easy as if it were a USB stick. The hardest part now is getting a CD drive.

Lemmy got a ton of traffic after the api black out and it did an incredible Job at retaining a lot of those users. There were 200k active users and Lemmy was much more unstable at the time. Active users did fall off as expected but 50k stayed for 2 years. Thats great in my opinion. If we had another migration wave I reckon the retention would be even higher.

For someone to switch from reddit to Lemmy three things need to happen

1. They need to know it exists

2. They need to dislike reddit or centralised corporate controlled social media on an ideological level.

3. They need something disruptive to happen. Either a ban or a change they dont like.

Nah its good being a catchall community where people can quickly dump anything they find funny. There aren’t enough posters for us to try and neatly categorise and contain every type of post.
