But you know who does employ children, Sophie?
But you know who does employ children, Sophie?
I was about to say, legally this is an act of war. There’s also some parliamentarian from the EU on there, so…
Hey hey, it’s not JUST about that!
It’s also because it classifies child marriage as abuse. You can still get married to or marry off your child as young as 12 in some states.
So to expand on these, because a lot of people seem to think “it’s because they cared”, that’s only partially it.
Back before faster travel methods, if you wanted a small bird for any reason and it had to travel any significant distance, you would assume at least a 75% fatality rate from stress, with that increasing to roughly 90% over greater distances.
So canaries and finches were expensive, and unless your mine was close to a port city, you’d be traveling 3-4 days at least. Need 4 canaries? Better buy 40.
Genocide. The Clinton admin invented the term “ethnic cleansing” to justify the US government disobeying their own laws requiring intervention against genocide (at that point, in Rwanda).
Let’s call it what it is.
I got laid off literally less than 20 minutes after I finished everything that needed to be done for that quarter. They told me they were waiting for me to finish, and that they had lied to my face about finding me a new position when they closed up my office.
For the next couple weeks, I’m sure. The financials are watching all the axes being taken to regulation in the industrial sector and I’m sure they’re gonna want in on that scene at some point.
Don’t forget trying to start a war with Iran (and maybe Iraq too) by assassinating an intelligence head during a peace conference with Iraq.
There’s also the fact that they reached a “ceasefire” with Lebanon and still had soldiers and tanks shooting at people there literally the day after.
Hell, we just need to take a small fraction of what the military gets yearly to pay for everyone’s student loans, right now.
Trump has already been spitballing military intervention in Mexico “to fight the cartels”, like we don’t already provide Mexico with a ton of anti-insurgent trainers and totally-not-special-ops guys who totally do not do violence in-country.
It’s New York, they could easily go pretty much anywhere without being clocked as anything weird.
I’ll second the last bit. I’ve got too many friends who bought their houses and they’re so insanely worried about “well what if the paint color on the outside makes people not want to buy the house” or whatever. That’s (hopefully) a problem that’s years and years in the future, and you shouldn’t have to worry about it. Don’t worry about how other people might see it - it’s your house, and you should do things that please you. Always wanted a bright pink bedroom? Go for it.
Ehhh, there’s still lively debate, but the general consensus is that the whole “we’ll deport the Jews/undesirables” thing was mostly a smokescreen, and the plan was always to either place them in work camps or kill the ones that couldn’t work. The camps came AFTER a lengthy campaign of extermination against “useless eaters” such as the elderly, the chronically ill, and the mentally and physically disabled, which was billed as “well they’re a huge drain on state resources.”
I think it’ll wind up as slavery. Instead of actually deporting huge numbers of people, they’ll go “wow so it turns out that’s really hard” and use them as prison labor instead. You don’t have to pay prison laborers.
They’re a US “comfort food” type restaurant - meatloaf, steaks, etc. Their aesthetic likes to hearken back to an old restaurant in the 1800s, all barn-wood panels and such. Unfortunately, they’ve also proven pretty discriminatory in their practices - in addition to the segregation lawsuit another commenter brought up, they had to be sued to rescind a policy disallowing LGBTQ+ workers in 1991, and there was a pretty notorious incident in 2018 where a Black bus driver got thrown out for simply ordering food at a Cracker Barrel (the staff there referred to Black people by the code phrase “Canadians”). They’re also still the subject of a class-action suit for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act (in 2021), and they also keep getting embroiled in sexual harassment suits.
“The war will continue until everyone we want to kill is dead.”
Don’t forget that Trump has pretty much promised to import the genocide home. It might not start off with people being gunned down in the street, but it’s definitely going to make life hard-to-impossible for immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, and everyone who’s not a straight white man.
Kentucky just allowed 12 year olds to work for nonprofits 18 hours a week.
I’ll also throw in November Kelly’s No Gods No Mayors, and occasional guests Failure To Launch (space disasters) and Beyond The Breakers (shipwrecks).
