The official mascot for C++ is an obese, diseased rat named Keith, whose hind leg is missing because it was blown off.
Mostly made of meat.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to differentiate between a AGI and an LLM that has read every book in existence?
34·6 days agoAn LLM doesn’t understand the output it gives. It can’t understand what someone wants when they talk to it, and it can’t generate an original thought. It’s as far from actual intelligence as auto complete on your phone.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can we distinguish truth from fiction in the age of AI?
28·15 days agoThat is already the case with written news. How can you trust any of it, when anyone can make up anything and present it as fact? In the same way you have to rely on the source and provenance of a news story, the same has become true of photos and videos. Photo altering has been going on for over 100 years
I think it’s worth keeping the name so that people searching for dodgy bondage suits get a chance to download some quality image processing software by mistake.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Out of ten, how would you rate your ability to empathize with people with opposing viewpoints?
4·15 days agoDepends who they are. The effort I put into empathising depends on how much of an arsehole they are.
Just look at this dullard’s posting history. Block and move on.
I wrote it for a friend’s company, and I don’t think he ever did anything much with it. I don’t remember the exact details, but it was something like this for 200 pages:
<1 - 100> [101 - 110] 111 … 120 [121 - 131] <131 - 200>
Basically 3 levels of page selection, where you can pick one in a range of 10, skip forward or back by 10 or go to a new section of pages. It was something like that anyway. The total number of pages defined the ranges. It was all very clever and worked well for moving around large numbers of pages.
I invented a pagination system for web pages that allowed easy navigation with only a few clicks to get to the page you want, whether it was 3 pages or 3000 pages.
I’m really surprised no one else has invented it because it was so much better than anything else I’ve seen.

memes@lemmy.world•I recently found an interesting animation of what our future might look like.
22·1 month agoThanks for wasting your time so we didn’t have to waste ours. 👍
Yeah, I’m on Android here because I like using my phone to pay for stuff. I’ve made a half-arsed attempt to degoogle a bit by running Immich on a home server for photos.
I had a Wiley Fox phone back in the day that was supposedly as stock Android as you could get.
Also windows.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What show or movie did you come to understand as a meditation on suffering and loss?
6·2 months agoIn the Night Garden. Iggle Piggle, hopelessly adrift and dying at sea, gives up any hope, removes the sail from his boat, wraps himself up in it, and goes to the Night Garden, where everyone is friendly and there are no worries. Let’s face it - he’s dead.
Yay! Problem solved. 🤓👍

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you found someone attractive, would you date them if you found out they were trans?
3·2 months agoBeen there, done that. It was great, but didn’t last for other reasons. I’m now cis married with kids and don’t regret a thing.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Thoughts on becoming self-employed and making a living off my passions?
9·2 months agoIs it something you can start to monetize while you are still in work? If it is possible to ease yourself into it more gently you can back out if it all goes tits up.
I can’t think of a single downside of this. I stopped counting at 20.
Yes, I found the sign eventually. Thanks.

I think the idea is that men don’t want to admit they have feelings and are lonely because that’s a weakness.
