Yeah I see your point. What I mean is what do they say it’s based on as their legal justification

For anyone else wondering what the ruling was based on (other than trump being a narcissistic loser):
In a 94-page opinion, the judge said the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees, made up of primarily Trump loyalists, violated the 1964 federal law that created the center, arguing the statute makes clear “the Kennedy Center must be named for, and is meant to honor, President Kennedy alone.”

So a Nazi salute has to be totally historically accurate for you to see it for what it is, but you can “give your heart” to an audience with a hand raised and downturned and you have no issue with that explanation? If you give, your hand is generally upturned. That is the gesture. Golly gosh I wonder why he did it that way instead 🤔🤔🤔 total mystery.
This type of comment is always hilarious to me. We’re talking about it right now. Nobody has been called bigoted. It’s fine.

I wonder why no other country needs this kind of affirmation? 🤔🤔🤔 hmmmmmmm what a mystery

Obviously, much like South Africa, the human rights council is just another legal arm of Hamas. They are an incredibly powerful and well connected organisation with widespread support in major institutions, humanitarian organizations, the UN and grassroots support across the world. How did they achieve this? 🤷♂️ but obviously if we acknowledge that this is an insane conspiracy theory we would have to admit all of crimes that Israel is doing and we can’t have that now can we

This is so fucking dumb. I don’t care, it doesn’t make what Biden is doing any better. This is not the voting booth

Yes but bad man is worse so it’s all ok, nothing to see here

He’s being consistently ignored about Rafah and then he goes for the carrot? I’m sure giving him what he wants will really help get Netanyahu out.
What he’s doing is public hand wringing, private support. If anything actually changes I’ll happily change my mind. I’d love to see it. But no, we get more dead kids.

Thanks Biden! Got to help Israel kill those kids. It’s very important work

Not at all! I’m not even sure what you mean about the moderation.
Honestly I just know there are such people on Lemmy and their explanation for stuff like this is interesting to me. I don’t even want them to be banned in general, I can just downvote and move on.
I got an answer, though. So far “it’s crazy to think Israel would do that on purpose, there are many possible explanations” and yet the facts still stand and no adequate explanation of the facts seems like it could be acceptable

Any Zionists/supporters of Israel please feel free to explain how this is in any way acceptable

Fair enough. It is being used more colloquially in this case, you’re right. I retract the accusation of fascism and substitute “an unjust authoritarian crackdown on the right to freedom of speech and expression, undermining the very tenets of democratic society. A national embarrassment.”

So punishing free speech and protest is not fascist provided that they are “only” in jail for a couple of days? Seriously?
Obviously cracking down on protests doesn’t mean it’s 1930s Germany but it’s part of the same playbook, surely?

I said the legacy of this will long outlast any positive action Biden has taken. Yeah people will probably vote on domestic issues (although if even a few percent don’t want to vote for someone aiding a genocide it is getting pretty tight for Biden), but this recent inflation or whatever will be a distant memory in a few years, while the genocide will not. The court case alone will take years to finish up.
Also under the genocide convention, it is also a crime to be complicit in genocide. So what happens if (ie probably when) the court rules in favour of South Africa? Biden is in the shit. Then he has to answer for HIS actions, as the primary backer of Israel. Not a good look.
I’m not saying “this is going to cost Biden the election,” which it seems you were responding to (even though maybe it will). I am saying “people will remember Biden as the guy who gave the bombs that they dropped on the innocent children and not that guy who had decent economic policy.”
If I was president this would bother me but maybe Biden doesn’t care ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Multiple State Department officials who have worked on Israeli relations said that Blinken’s inaction has undermined Biden’s public criticism, sending a message to the Israelis that the administration was not willing to take serious steps.
Public criticism, private support. The administration is complicit, and this legacy of aiding genocide will long outlast any positive action Biden has taken thus far

If only they could have used their vote to express this sentiment in some way
You should try to read one! Skim it, I mean.
I haven’t read this opinion specifically (and some of this probably won’t apply), but generally:
They explain all of the relevant procedural stuff in detail, and even justifying how things are being handled, with citations. Then the basics about what happened, the arguments on each side. Discuss the relevant laws and relevant edge cases. They will talk about new submissions to the court, and basically tell the story of what happened legally (there was a hearing on x date, defense submitted new evidence on y date etc). Then they sort through all the bullshit as judges, saying what’s accurate/a good argument and what’s not. Then write their actual opinion. 100 pages is pretty standard from the ones I’ve seen.
