  • Are you a lady? I work in an office at a sports company (so sporty casual is common) and there are several women here who wear dresses and skirts not pants, several more who switch back & forth. Not me - pants feel much more secure to me - but it’s nothing anyone really notices.

A man wearing skirts we would notice for awhile, not care but notice; if you are customer facing then you might encounter that surprise over and over, if not, I don’t think it will be a big deal.

  • Just coffee. I would eat a late breakfast one day, then stop eating, coffee (no calories) the next morning and then nothing until supper, usually around 8pm.

Yes the LDL went back up. I know it was related to the fasting and not weight loss - I am not fat and maintained calories overall to keep my weight stable. I had been sort of stumped, like you are. Obviously if someone is overweight and loses weight that will have benefits, there wasn’t a lot of research on people of normal weight fasting and not reducing. I got the one measurable benefit, but no improvements I could feel in any way, and the headaches were pretty bad.

ETA - short fast doesn’t need careful refeed. I just made a regular supper to break those fasts. No problems, and in general digestion has never been a weakness for me.

Event operations (we will always need competent people on the ground who can quickly make decisions when the inevitable moment plans go awry, this happens in every live event)

Or I guess building the AI?

I am with you. Do accounting and tried to use our AI, it’s ok at some stuff but only the stuff that our intern could do for less cost than we are paying to license the AI. Fucking hate how it’s stuffed into inappropriate jobs. I think that sort of program has a place, sort through enormous datasets and give us the interesting bits, can help with DNA science, it’s not useless, but it can’t even balance a bank account.

  • I fly a pirate flag here for Gasparilla, then usually nothing. We don’t have a whole flagpole though.

My kids put a rainbow flag in the window.

American flags on flagpoles left up all night just crack me up. Dudes wanting to proclaim they are so patriotic but then not following the etiquette requirements for that piece of fabric they put so much emphasis on. At school there were routines we had to follow, to put it up each morning and take it down each evening and fold some particular way.

If I had an actual flagpole - I’d make it a Maypole in spring. At Christmas make it a Christmas tree made of string lights. At Halloween put a skeleton stripper on it. At Gasparilla the pirate flag and in the summer use it to help anchor a shade cloth stretching to the house. I don’t think I’d usually use it for a flag.

  • Four days with a migraine is the longest I have gone. Even if I put a spoonful of water in my mouth I’d puke. That was back when they would give you opiates to break the migraine, they don’t work as painkillers for it but make you high enough to finally sleep - pain felt so far away - and I would wake up with no headache. It’s happened about 7 times total in my life, now they won’t do that but they do IV fluids to prevent damage and some antihistamine to make you sleep but it doesn’t break the migraine. Hopefully it never happens again.

On purpose I have fasted 3 days but would NEVER purposely fast without water. Water with electrolytes if going more than a day or so.

  • That’s not as profoundly bad as I was, nor my nearsighted child, and I had a work colleague with -12 who got her vision corrected with Lasik.

I had the Lasik in my 20s for a -6 prescription and got, not perfect, but good enough vision to only need thin, light glasses.

When I was profoundly nearsighted I got really good correction with contacts, hard contacts gave me supernaturally good vision, but glasses never did. Even now I can’t get perfect vision with glasses, it’s just good enough.

You are farsighted? Two older ladies at my work had to get cataract surgery and in the process, their vision was corrected. Do get a second opinion, but it is true that you may not be able to see perfectly through glasses, I never could. Well enough to work, to read, and to not get headaches from squinting all the time, though, I don’t feel disabled by my sight.

One year on my birthday, years ago, my mom gave me a gift in a jewelry box. I was inwardly groaning, but when I opened it, it was memory for my computer. Which was a thoughtful gift, and a funny way to package it.

Way ahead of her time I guess.

I really do not like homework for little kids, they are in school 8 hours, that’s time for a study hall and recess, they aren’t going to forget how to read overnight, and don’t have enough free time as it stands now. So much of what little kids need is time to develop, not just academic instruction.

From 12 yo or so, sure, but school should be fewer hours then, like college, classes for lecture and questions, and work done outside class. 2 of mine had high schools that worked like that, with a long study hall period because school district mandates on campus time, and those two were the most successful in college, and so far also in career.

  • Time is a luxury. Even on a small scale - I bike or walk to work most days, because I have the luxury of waking up when I wake up, having a morning and a slow human powered commute. That is privilege, yes? So many have to drive an hour or even more.

If I had the time to walk to somewhere far, I would take it.

I guess on the upside, a faster life means more stuff done in each life?

  • Sadly I lost it, could not wear it in public back then, it had the circles of hell on the front and profanity on the back Fudge Packing Crack Smoking Satan Worshipping Mother Fuckers. White with pink print.

And yes if I had ANY idea they would get so big I would have asked them to sign it and kept it, I cut it up a little and wore it to shows and don’t remember what happened to it. Really this was like 35 years ago! Maybe more. The club was the Masquerade in Ybor City in Tampa, back when it wasn’t all bars and was still kinda rough.

  • I saw them here, before they got famous. They did a big tour in a white van, played a bar here with a crowd of about 30 people! Bought the last shirt from the hands of Kurt, I had absolutely no idea they would get famous, they were so far from anything getting played on the radio. I only knew about them because my brother’s friend gave me a tape with them, Mudhoney, Tad.

Swear to God I cannot predict to save my life but live a few years in the future. You could have knocked me down with a feather when they got famous, and I think they were just as surprised.

I agree with you. They were good but not great.

  • One of the odd effects I’ve noticed with the last round of inflation is that prices are converging. Cheaper places raised prices more than more expensive places. I never liked McDonald’s - the french fries are good but I’ve never chosen to go there, only had them incidentally. But it was cheap. Not now, it’s more like going anywhere, so why would you go there? As someone else said, I can get tacos down the street, closer than any fast food place and they are pretty fast, or we go to the cafe up the street, they did have inflation but at least the money stays local.
