  • Knowing how their desktop app works on Linux (or more specifically doesn’t and requires you to mingle with it if you want any degree of Wayland awareness) it doesn’t surprise me their app remake (because it’s not just a redesign) is total garbage. I hope they get around to fixing the performance and bugs; but as things are right now I’m staying on Vendetta and refuse to update.

  • Length might have mattered in the 80s and 90s when IDEs were crap but we got autocomplete in pretty much all our text editors (even TUI ones like vim).

    As for readability there is an argument to be had in specific contexts, but 9 out of 10 times it makes more sense to use a proper word.

    Example:

    let list = [1, 2, 3];
    for i in list {
        println!("{}", i);
    }

    In this case using item in the place of i would be more fitting.

    Heya, seems you made a post to lemmy from a mastodon instance.

    You can post to lemmy from mastodon, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. The first line of your post is the title (if you only post 1 line lemmy will duplicate it), Lemmy only allows text here and things like links will look broken.
    2. Hashtags do work on Lemmy, but they will not be useful for discovery here we use communities instead (which display as groups on mastodon)
    3. Only the first image in your post is visible on Lemmy, be mindful of this when posting image or video content

    I am a human that stumbled upon your post, if you have any questions feel free to reply.

  • Ah classic AZ-5 going from reactor shutdown to hydrogen bomb detonation button.

    That said, this is also partially to blame to the graphite tipped control rods which have had their graphite tips removed in any operational RBMK reactor including those still running today.

  • The problem with battery fires is that most batteries are made out of lithium which reacts with pretty much everything and is extremely difficult to put out.

    In addition obtaining the rare earth metals for these batteries ecologically is a real challenge and it will only get worse the more we use.

    I’m not saying we should abandon electric cars but we should know the benefits and drawbacks of each option before making a decision.
