  • He basically worked for exposure and in this case it worked. Yes 175k is a lot of money but for a big budget trilogy it’s definitely on the lower end. People also underestimate how long those shooting days are. It’s not uncommon for principal photography to have 16 hour shooting days. Shooting those movies back to back must have been tough for everyone on set.

  • And screen-share knowledge is not some skill that is short in supply and high in demand. Every year tons of people graduate to fill those low level IT jobs. It’s simple economics, jobs that are easily filled are the ones that pay the least.

People here are delusional. They have been fed white lies by their parents and teachers that if they are smart and just work hard they get rewarded abundantly. It’s not how the world works.

  • Yep also happened to my family. There is a y in my family name, but that’s very uncommon in the Netherlands, my last name is of French origin. So some bureaucrat changed it to a Dutch y which is an ij and there was no time to correct it since my grandparents had to catch the boat to flee the former Dutch colony. Now my last name is constantly pronounced wrong. I’m probably going to change it in the future but in the Netherlands you are not allowed to change your name except for a few exceptions. And applying for a name change cost a lot of money and you won’t get it back if they reject it. So I probably have to get a lawyer to do it.

  • Because the makers aren’t selling you the software or the video. They are selling you the rights to consume it. The reason for that is that software, movies and books can be easily copied and redistributed.

When that stuff was on a physical medium it was also sold with the same license. You would own the disc/tape/book with the license but you wouldn’t own the movie, software or literary work. You can sell the disc with the license but you can’t take the content of the disc and sell it separately since that is technically copying and you don’t own the copyright.

  • Yeah a disc or cartridge with a license attached to it. So if you sold the disc you also sold the license. With digital distribution if you sell the files and transfer it to someone you technically made a copy. Which is not allowed since you don’t own the copyright.
