I have a monstrous satellite l300 i use for light spec work and arduino programming. 17" screen. It does not feel claustrophobic in the slightest, unlike my latest gen dell work machine with a screen smaller than my first fucking 486 i need glasses to even see. where did we go so wrong.
Imma gonna call him winnie the pooh all I want and you can’t stop me

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Seriously, just stop (or use Linux)English
7·8 days agoSame way the rest of the OS is built.
All those fucked up snapins and apps and pretty pretty nonfunctional interfaces (try changing an ip) are utterly negated by start-run-“control”
Might wanna re-read that comment mate

1·1 month agoPartisans used to put ieds on delays in the middle of roads, usually hidden in cowpats. Why delays? that way they would be triggered by the first vehicle - usually security - but the second car - usually full of the nazi brass - would be the ones that copped the blast.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Australians banned teens from using social media. Now, Australians are worried about teenagers going outside with e-bikesEnglish
202·2 months agoWrong.
we have two issues
One is crusted old cumstains losing their shit about the presence of Visible Teenagers after the social media ban. They can go fuck 'emselves
The other issue is teens on illegal wattage ebikes that are souped up to 50/90kmph and ridden in areas not designed to have things at that speed tearing through them. Because of pedestrians, kids, horses, etc.

1·2 months agoWhy?
A lot of pieces of medical and industrial hardware have their controlling software written in VB and if you’re lucky it’s VB6…(and usually heavily dependent on openGL libraries)
Banking? That’s all COBOL and BASIC.

1·2 months ago‘Rookie mistake’ applies colloquially in many situations that aren’t professional.
When someone asks you for advice on an OS, tech kit, or any other item you should be considering their use case, not your own.
Legit, at my current workplace one of the first things i did was update the very neglected hardware.
The IDRAC on the core server was so old i had to spin up an xp vm just to get a browser that would accept it so i could upgrade.

3·2 months agoI think a verrrrrrry very large part of the problem is that the most vocal linux proselytisers have never actually had to do a job (or have, but done it very badly) where you have to tailor to the client.
Rookie mistake.
