Yeah. This guy seems to think “the reckoning” will be some sort of revolution, where in the real world we’re steamrolling into fascist dystopia.

I’d argue the US for-profit health insurance system is state sanctioned terrorism of the civilian population, for profit.
What greater way to terrorize a population than to deny them and their families healthcare, under the threat of bankruptcy? How about the threat of bankruptcy either way, whether they’re insured or not?
The industry kills 30x 9/11 every year, bankrupts 500k, while stealing 500-700 billion from the population (compared to the public systems of the developed world). At the very least, it’s financial terrorism and extortion.
Hate to tell ya but the political class is curated and manufactured by the corporate plutocracy. Most of them are scabs paid to talk the talk publicly, while offering subservience behind closed doors. Anyone actually walking the walk is an anomaly; if they ever have a reasonable chance of success, they are pre-emptively neutralized by the states monopoly on violence.
They will also crush all organized movements with mass surveillance, and it’s only going to get worse. It seems like the masses only recourse is self-sacrifice through vigilante terrorism. It’s much harder to stop a motivated and autonomous, self-organizing, lone-wolf / individual (see mass shooters).
While most work is hard, and I dunno how bespoke this gig is, there’s a massive difference between a generic fry “cook” and a restaurant line cook/chef.
Most fry cooks, like a Macdonald’s, are a finely tuned production line where most of the food is pre-prepped and premade (most of the “cooking” is done in a factory). The “cooks” in those roles usually just assemble the pre made components, and in the case of fast food, have finely tunes tools to serve their generic menu.
A restaurant cook/chef requires significantly more attention to detail, skill, flexibility, and knowledge because most of the food is made from scratch, using raw ingredients, which is why there are culinary schools. Real restaurants can’t succeed with a kitchen full of deep fryers and teenagers pushing buttons. Naturally, the expectation is that they should be paid more because it requires more skill, knowledge, effort, and dedication.
It’s baffling how many open source projects choose proprietary big tech systems for their projects, especially an inefficient comms tool like discord.
That’s the best part! You can’t!
Thanks to the consolidation and vertical integration of the largest multinationals, as long as you choose to live — no matter how careful and conscious your purchases — a significant proportion of it will still funnel to most of these corporations.
Math, despite being a great skill to have, is not mandatory for a large volume of programming roles. It may hurt you in some interviews but interviews are a fucking crap shoot / shit metric either way. Computers do most of the math, so you don’t have to!
Source: I’m dyslexic, suffered from dyscalculia and migraines until I was allowed to use a calculator, and barely passed high school math. No degree. No bootcamp. 8 years as a dev.
I’ve also excelled in multiple roles where colleagues were math or CS PHD’s, and become the senior or go-to on more projects than not. The key part is to know your strengths. I’m never gonna accept a role developing accounting software, or anything that would require me to code complex math on a regular basis. You’d be surprised how far you can get with Google.
You seem to forget that reddit mods are nobodies, and have been compromised by for-profit and psychological warfare interests for over a decade.
I was on Reddit for 5 years before I ever got banned. I spread usage among 20 accounts since ~2010, mainly to group topics. Got banned from subs at least 10-20 times since 2015. Only a few were fair, where I was asking for it, just drunk or trying to be a dick. The rest were from conservative subs, and half of those were pre-emptive bans before I’d ever posted, commented, or referenced them — the snowflakes pre-banned me for wrong think, for calling out conservatism from afar.
So to me, it’s far more concerning if you’ve been on Reddit in the last decade and haven’t been “rejected” by fascist mods at least a few times. It’s been a battlefield of bad-faithers for most of its existence.
NOTE: most lemmy mods are no different, and are far more compromised than early Reddit. Many are tankie keyword-squatters building their own propaganda networks from Reddits exodus.
How many of them have exited the rat race and could stop working forever without a problem?
What makes you so confident that this super sophisticated “selective targeting” is 100% guaranteed? What if the species who has killed off 10-100% of every animal population on the planet, in 1 thousandth the time most of them took to evolve, isn’t as smart as they consider themselves to be? What if the talking chimps, with a few decades education, missed something and end up accidentally exterminating all mosquitos? How many animals and ecosystems depend on an animal that’s existed for longer than most terrestrial species? What if our weapon spreads to other arthropods with a similar DNA and “exterminates” insect species around the world, who are already in a historic rate of decline, right after we’ve degraded every habitat on Earth, just as our unplanned terraform irrevocably alters their climate forever?
Are any of these risks worth millions of human lives? Maybe we should focus on altering ourselves? At least then our failures will be contained…
Reintroduction is not the same thing; that’s an attempt to reverse our damage and restore the ecology that existing before we fucked shit up.
There’s definitely a potential for negative consequences, once the balance has been damaged long enough, but wolves inhabited Yellowstone for hundreds of millennia and have only been gone ~0.03% as long. The years of planning were probably regulatory and because wolves are complex social animals that can’t simply be abducted, dumped, and expected to succeed as though you didn’t just traumatize them with teleportation.
I have argued for the same caution every single time this came up on Reddit, because I know of a dozen examples in history where we fucked up something similar.
I got downvoted every single time, across several posts over the years, because obviously the hive mind believes things will be different this time! The thing that males me confident it’ll fail is I’ve never seen, and nobody’s ever provided, an example where this type of ecological engineering has actually succeeded for the better.
To do that, you first need to remove conservative and neoliberal politicians.
Israel has already been doing this in Gaza, but with airstrikes. Giving a robot the ability to pull the trigger is barely different to air-striking buildings based on statistical modelling the likelihood that terrorists are inside as your only form of “intelligence” — especially when you don’t care about civilian casualties and already proven to shoot first and not bother even bother asking questions later.
This “leader” is a psychopathic murderer who should have already been executed at the hague. Instead he’s our “ally”, because we live in capitalist dictatorship’s masquerading as “democracies”.
I am shocked, beyond all recognition, that the psychopath monarch who dismembered an anti-fascist journalist with bone saws could show such a lack of empathy for the Palestinian people. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
All of our “democracies” are ruled by sociopathic criminals who only worship the almighty dollar. The sooner everyone accepts that, the sooner we can oppose authoritarian dictatorships and genocidal ethnostates, instead of kissing their ass.
A wooden spoon across the top of the pot prevents boilover, so why waste the oil?
You ever heard the saying “like oil and water”? Oil doesn’t mix with water. It floats on the surface. Adding it just wastes 100% of the oil.
Until someone hacks your brain, or just puts a keyboard in front of you and lets the chip do its thing without your consent.
Dismantle bridge option was initially chosen because it was believed the tax payers would foot the bill… I guarantee it.
