I didn’t know exactly, off hand who Brian Blessed was but immediately recognized him in a video and I totally agree with you he would have been perfect.
I can appreciate this take, I know he’s a popular character and I read somewhere that Jack Black would be the only actor capable of pulling off the role which absolutely makes sense to me (and honestly does make re-reading more entertaining.) I get it, I just don’t like him. The world around him is falling to darkness and he just doesn’t care. No one really knows what he’s capable of outside of his realm because he likes his life with Goldberry and again just doesn’t care about anything else. I always saw him as representative of those apolitical people who didn’t care enough to stop fascist regimes take over their own country because they only cared about their own day to day life and couldn’t be bothered to vote or fight for anything. I’m glad they took him out of the movies, it flows better and fits the tone of everyone coming together in a fellowship to defeat evil. 🤷♀️
Which begs the question: is it fucky or fact-y? Hahaha
Lol. This might not be popular BUT there’s a reason he doesn’t make the cut in the movies or extended cut releases. Tom Bambodil is basically middle earth’s “MyStErIoUs WaYs.” This is a hot take but I would almost go so far as to say his existence in the world ruins the book, his songs/poetry are terrible and he’s just kind of there. He is meant to be a mysterious figure that lends to the overarching mystery of the world, one who has always been around and is so powerful he is basically a god, but doesn’t actually give a shit about the world outside of himself or the suffering of others. I see him as a vestige of JRRT’s catholicism seeping through, this ultimate force that could end the war but didn’t because reasons.
Edit: grammar is hard after wine
This was the absolute perfect meme format to deliver this news. What a disappointment of the casting director.
LOL I’m literally feeling this as I rewrite my resume to get ready to jump ship to a new job before they relocate. Wish me luck lemmings! 🙃
It’s crazy how even though we are raising our little guy non-religious he has “learned” so much from kids at school/friends. We have started playing a game with him called “Fact, Fiction, Belief” where you have to name, you guessed it a fact, fiction and belief. For example, a fact is “a tree is a plant” a fiction would be “trees can walk like ents” a belief would be “cherry blossom trees are the most beautiful plants in the world.” It has really helped him see that beliefs are kind of their own category, they are real to the person who has them but not necessarily shared by everyone.
This is absolutely horrifying and I love it so much
It took me a minute, all I saw was that sand lion from Aladdin lol but dayummmm bats is draggin’ a wagon
I just finished your article and wow! I’m definitely going to save it and share it the next time I come across another one of those viral problems. It was incredibly thorough and well researched, you clearly put a lot of energy and effort into it and it blew me away. It was really refreshing to see someone articulate themselves so passionately with supporting research. I look forward to reading more of your work!! 👏
