Why do you assume sincerity from Russian talking points? Russia already has borders with NATO and didn’t go to war to prevent them. The war pushed Finland to join, which is not exactly a surprising result from renewed Russian invasions of conquest.

The whole reason I subscribe to ml politics is because commenters here are less blindly credulous about the disconnect between the statements of American political actors and their actions, but then you just trade it for an infinite well of trust for foreign regimes that at least until recently were blatantly worse.

If Ukraine doesn’t get any security assurances, then they’re effectively still at war. This war started after supposedly getting promises of security for ceding Crimea.

They’re not the ones pushing this negotiation. If they just wanted to stop the war and give Putin everything he wanted with no guarantees he won’t just regroup and invade again they could have done that at any time.

With no guarantees of safety from future aggression, why on earth would Ukraine accept such a deal? This whole war started with Russia breaking their previous peace agreement.

And the data is not available. Knowing the weights of a model doesn’t really tell us much about its training costs.

It’s not an outbreak of “violence”, it’s an outbreak of terrorism.

Tell me more, establishment power structures, how celebrating the vigilante killing of a mass murderer in a suit is demonstrating the deep moral rot in our society.

He also apparently gave cops the same fake ID he used at the hostel, despite having four fake IDs. My only guess is the initial escape was to keep the story alive for a week, then he either expected to be caught eventually or intentionally allowed himself to be caught so he could revitalize it and possibly start making public statements.

So your argument is that he voluntarily backed down from a coup that otherwise would have continued and worked even after the military knew the rest of the government, including those in his own party, rejected his claim? Like he had some earnest change of heart rather than knew it was failing?

Coups aren’t resolved by rules and regulations on who gets to command the military, they’re about whose message gets out as “official” and who the security forces follow, and he was obviously not winning that struggle. There were soldiers on the street apologizing and that the members of parliament even got into the building indicates the security forces weren’t fully on board. The very publicized opposition leader bypassed the restrictions by jumping a waist high fence.

And none of this subjective determination of which individual entity held the most sway in ending the coup matters to anything else in the piece. It’s not even a terribly important question.

That’s neither a significant difference nor something that majorly impacted anything written afterward.

I legit had to check whether this was The Onion. This is such an absurd thing to announce it seems like a parody of their actions.

It’s certainly very feasible. They just would be very unlikely to be commenting on or printing this story if that was the whole story.

There’s a low chance that this is a story about actual shortages that would indicate a weakness in Israel’s missile defenses and very high chance this is about the weapons industry trying to milk more money from the US and Israeli governments.

Israel arrested some journalists for merely reporting on missile strikes. I have a hard time believing an Israeli weapons exec is dishing with a foreign paper on their weakness or the Jerusalem Post would get approval from the censors to write about it, even if the Financial Times had already done so.

Call them antisemitic like they did with the antiwar protests. And they’ll have all the centrist press reinforcing it so they’ll never need to consider whether there’s any deeper issue they should be thinking about.
