Boring meme
Last solid remaster is probably Age of Mythologies Retold.
Most remasters by now are just junkware though.
I mean there’s a million eyes on them, they’re either gonna get the right or the whole DA is gonna be in a world of shit.
If it comes out they intentionally framed someone cause they couldn’t find the right guy, there’s no way this won’t come out. Already disregarding the heightened likelyhood on jury nullification and general unwillingness for the public to cooperate.
There’s so many news stations in proximity and so many people who’d speak out in a nanosecond, they can’t even get to fuck around before they find out.
There’s licenses that restrict monetary use. Not saying that’s the best thing to do, but that certainly would mean you only provide it to people who don’t make money from it, which might still be a lot of people.
Funnily enough, because it’s injecting code into a website as a browser, it’s probably using a bunch of case law and positions very similar to ad blockers trying to defend their use. Which is ironic on many levels.
2.5/10 joke, really not hitting the right humor for this community.
2/10 joke
Could have had more uniqueness.
I did, and I disagree with their decisions.
I can condense their article down to “we need money, and we can get it through ads, so we built our own ad network to preserve privacy”.
But I don’t like that. This decision does not exist in a vacuum. This comes after a number of other decisions leading me to believe they are shifting priority to making a profit. Telemetry being opt-out, pocket, selling ads on home screen, …
This is the icing on a shit cake and I’m sorry, Mozilla destroyed their value proposition about half way into their chain of bad decisions.
If you still wanna use Firefox, fine. I don’t care about that. I don’t understand why, but that’s ok, it’s your god damn decision. But I wanna alert everyone else that Mozilla is not who they used to be and it’s time to reevaluate why you use the browser you do.
Saying this is an ignorant take is invalidating all the experiences I’ve had configuring Firefox back to being privacy friendly, and I don’t appreciate you calling me ignorant for that. If you disagree, that’s fair, but you can do it without attacking my credibility. And doing so by giving actual reasons would definitely help your case.
Been called an idiot for saying that I wouldn’t trust Firefox as far as I can throw it like 2 months ago after they made telemetry opt out.
I can’t believe that someone who is privacy conscientious would just stick to their guns rather than watching out for their privacy.
I just hope someone else picks up the shards and runs with it and then we can all just focus on making them better instead of getting riled up over a god damn browser lol.
Been coding up a little dashboard in the last week, and it’s been making me around 30% more efficient.
And you are right, it’s mostly taking away the boring parts, which is awesome.
Hopefully this makes some of the Firefox shills finally realize it’s time to change our recommendations.
I’ve heard so much shit lately about Firefox, it has become a sinking ship and I’m eager to see who picks up the shards and runs with it.
As a German, fair enough.
Funnily enough, I think Jesse and James both had their own episodes where they split from team rocket and somehow become very reasonable.
I loved those because it made the plot a little bit more nuanced and interesting.
No one uses Boolean values anyway and with the amount of resources available on modern systems we can just replace them with integers and we should be fine. This also makes it easier to teach people, as they would learn less different data types.
Yes I’m a software dev :)
At this point I think there is no software dev topic that is somehow not devisive.
1000% agree.
As a software dev, I’m using windows and I know I shouldn’t switch.
Tbh it’s even worse, I can not switch. And that’s why it’s even more ridiculous. Linux power users like to say that you can do everything you can in windows but with more control. And with “control” they are right, but with “everything” more than wrong. Everything that’s not working out of the box is a gamble on time wasted getting said thing to work. For the simplest thing you can be stuck for weeks just by sheer bad luck.
Say you are a software dev? Yeah Linux is pretty solid.
3d artist? Meh. Blender is the last thing that works, otherwise you are stuck. Octane, 3ds max, Maya, c4d, Houdini, v-ray, real flow, … You gotta be lucky to find them to be compatible even if it’s only with a workaround.
Music production? Well you are stuck on LMMS, which is basically only used by very specific experimental artists. Also plugins, especially those with copyright protection will give you one hell of a hard time.
Images? Well gimp is not Photoshop if we’re honest, and stuff like coreldraw is also hard to replace on Linux.
Video cutting? You have to carefully tip toe about everything Adobe, and that’s an awful hassle. And because everyone would love to give Adobe the middle finger, we are slowly realizing how hard it is to replace Adobe and that if you go somewhere, it is not working as well by default, you have to really make it work.
And especially in big enterprises time is money. So every time someone thinks about where to migrate to, how to migrate, or when they are migrating, and than when they have to propose new workflows, new solutions, a bunch of workarounds, maintenance pipelines, etc. it’s just not worth it. Not on a big company scale, and unfortunately also not on a me scale.
At the end of the day, an OS is a tool to me, not a lifestyle choice, a hobby or a commitment. And it shouldn’t be. As long as Linux is at least 2 of those things for everyone that’s not using it, it’s not very compelling to switch. And that goes for every distro.
Btw. this is the reason why I can understand people using apple over windows. Yeah it’s 1000 bucks to take like 20min less to do a thing. But it stacks up exponentially with every device that integrates into Apple’s universe. And if you spend even 20min less per day, that’s already more than 2h per week that you now have to dedicate to other things.
I’m not rich and this doesn’t entice me, but I get it.
So yeah, make a distro that’s not only modular and expendable, but make it also very easy to understand and make it as easy. And make it either as compatible with Windows software or add those features in a different way. And then people like me can dream about a FOSS universe for everyone.
I mean I would agree, although the way he phrased some diary entries points to him having more targets, just that this was a perfect “first” victim.
Applying Occam’s razor would make both of OC’s explanations equally as likely.
