I have to actively tell my grandfather who wanted to switch to Fedora to stop trying to use the command line lol, it’s easier to remember the GUI. CLI isn’t some big looming threat like it was in the 2010’s.

it’s funny because it pokes fun at the latent sexism in our culture. It’s not glorifying it, it’s portraying it as silly.

Speak for yourself, the university student union runs weekend lans open to alumni and they sell 50 cent energy drinks
Build scripts are often written in bash, yes, but I would say that you should find a utility program, or write your own utility in python, if you’re breaking out sed. It’s very hard to read code like this, no matter the team size.
There’s probably only 100-300 usages of sed in the entire nixpkgs repo, with over 100,000 packages.
I definitely agree Linux is easier to maintain and build code on than Windows, but yeah abusing sed is not really an ideal use case 😅

who in their right mind would try to do this on Linux
I was trying to ask about this at kubecon. As far as I know, Neonephos is more about making software for public cloud services with EU and German funding, and tied to SAP. Public code for public money.
I’m not entirely sure what EuroStack is, but there was an open letter from 100+ companies supporting it and a general idea of investing in European IT and open standards, and divesting from American IT. SAP and LF were not on that letter.

Kubernetes is more stable than docker compose. Docker compose is fishing for containers after the ship capsized. Frustrating and nothing works out of the box.

Not much, just says sudo-rs instead of sudo, and it’s memory safe. I think there might be some missing features for really advanced multi-tenant setups, but for single user machines, it’s the perfect successor to sudo.
nixos also supports giving the sudo binary a setuid flag that only allows members of the wheel group to use sudo, preventing any privilege escalation attacks from your services/servers.
Not part of uutils but I’ve been using sudo-rs on all of my NixOS systems for over a year, and it’s been great.
Interesting! Is that usually like HDbaseT or SDVoE? Would you recommend it for menus and screens in a bar?
I could see a lot of uses for a product like this for bars and offices I work in, but I would imagine the could might be prohibitive if it’s more than a few hundred dollars per unit.

Imagine a future where video was just ethernet and we didn’t have to worry about crappy cables or DRM
Yeah, probably wont be possible for people to make their own data cables for much longer. Fiber cables are much cheaper and thinner than copper at least, so not as much of an issue to buy different sizes instead of making them yourself.
tbh high bandwidth cables over copper are a bit of an anti pattern.
Would be a lot cheaper and compact if ethernet and video over fiber were more popular already
HD baseT
tie the cable into a knot, it’s the fastest and least damaging way to store cables
Meanwhile, Ubuntu is switching to uutils
