Wouldn’t want to write a webserver / database connection / scheduler / etc. from scratch. Spring Boot plus lombok turns 2k lines of code into 100.

If you’re ready to tinker a bit i can recommend Ollama for the backend and Open web UI for the frontend. They can also both run on the same machine.

I’m not sure if I understand your question, but if you are trying to build a solution, you will have to know the problem. I am writing said mailings, database, rest interfaces etc. for which Java and Spring boot is pretty useful. Some people might consider this antiquated. I also used python for data science stuff in the past. Neither would i like to have been using java back then, or python now. But in both cases i needed to know what i was building before i (or my employer) chose the technology to use.

If you are offered a position where you will have to use a technology for something you think its not a good fit for then run. Some people might even be more interested in you if you tell them as it makes you look more experienced. And you’re right, it is usually not worth it to have religious wars over 0.xy percents of performance gain, as long as you’re not trying to build a house with a screwdriver.

Let’s hope that this is not a productive system. I want to say that you’d have to try hard to do something that stupid, but then again, knowing from myself, you can cause a lot of trouble with a single command in a cli somewhere.

This fucks me up to no end. I love this phone but that fucking search bar made me switch the launcher. I also love the Pixel launcher (if it wasn’t for that search bar), so I run the alpha release of Lawnchair. Problem is, there is no proper release bc there is not enough manpower to develop it.

I wrote a webserver in python the last three years and am now changing to java for a new position, and it feels like programming with training wheels.

But then again i did some data science with python and could not have imagined doing it with java.

Windows is shit, but the days where you have to do configuration if you don’t use some obscure notebook in one of the most used linux distros is over. I’d say gnome e.g. is pretty close to macos UI wise. There is also Hackintosh if you can’t live without it.

As for why I particularly hate apple:

• Bizarre pricing for comparably low tier Hardware (although not really comparable since apple makes their own ARM silicone)
• Bad repairability, including flimsy collabs to produce some overpriced block of metal just to change an jphone battery lol
• Walled garden / closed ecosystem. Blocking third party apps for users “security”. All this green bubble / blue bubble bullshit.
• productivity and design wise alright machines, but utter trash when it comes to gaming.
