Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping to do with my system too! I’m not even in a bad financial situation rn, I just don’t really need that PC asap and don’t want to encourage the current market by actually buying at those inflated prices. It’s gonna be a very cool setup once DDR5 RAM goes back to being affordable, but in the meantime it’s just a very expensive adhd pile on my floor xD

This hurts, I finally decided to build my first own PC like 2 months ago, got everything planned out but decided to wait for black friday to actually order all the parts. Now I have everything except RAM and an SSD, because I refuse to pay those prices 🥲 Maybe I’ll buy a single second hand 8GB stick just to find out whether my system even boots…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something you can see, hear, smell, etc., that others can't?
40·1 month agoThe fucking documentation for the libraries we program with, apparently. Everyone else at work either just vibecodes or goes “aw I don’t know how to do that, it probably can’t be done :c”
Maybe not as a dev, but those qualifications make you perfect for tech support. The support people where I work have their own beer fridge plus dedicated lockable containers for their liquor and no one would ever dare mess with that. And if you’re good at support, there’s a high chance you’ll get promoted to the Product Owner role pretty fast!
Not to spread concern or anything, but the electrical grid is managed and controlled by software. And that software may or may not be very reliant on AWS. I’m probably not allowed to say more than that.

Maybe they should consider flying into Linux instead
Man, you’d think the government would upgrade to Li-Ion Batteries with proper Induction Charging Stations, but apparently they don’t value population surveillance enough to cough up the budget for that. Typical 🙄
I… I hope my passwords are hashed and salted long before they reach the server, so the way it handles unicode shouldn’t affect it all that much. The logistical issue I was seeing with emojis was more that some of them look the same but have different Unicodes alltogether, so typing in the same emoji across devices might be tricky if their keyboards default to different codes.
Hm, now you’re making me wonder how feasible it would be to use Emojis in my passwords…
The switch to winter time was last sunday, it’s been a fun week at work so far.

Yeah, just hating on iPhones because they’re iPhones is stupid. I use GrapheneOS, and their official statement is “Graphene is your best option for security, but if you don’t want to fiddle with things and be in an open source ecosystem, your #2 best choice is an iPhone”

5·4 months agoHoly shit, it actually works!
It’s beautiful and very handy, if you use it exactly like they want you to! Getting it to play nice with custom components is so fiddly though ;_;
Godspeed! I can’t even handle Tailwind yet since I’m so used to MaterialUI’s stupid styling system. Gotta break out of those proprietary systems and rawdog CSS one day, but today is not that day yet…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy users, how do you deal with the current dating sphere? Assuming you haven't found Thee One?
2·4 months agoI agree so much with the intention thing you mention! If someone was flirting with me irl it would either go completely over my head or I’d think they are trying to pull some sort of scam, just because I wouldn’t be set up to expect that they have dating intentions (is that a 'tism thing?)
I met my partner on Tinder in 2018 and we’ve been going strong ever since! Ironically though, it turns out that we literally sat across from each other at the University Cafeteria like a week before we met on Tinder, and we both forgot about it (we each had a friend sit next to us at the cafeteria and our friends remembered each other later). We literally chatted without a single thought about dating, just because neither of us realized that it even was an option!

Year 7-9 was pretty alright for me! I had cut out all the people I dislike in my class by year 6 so after that I had a nice, tight-knit friend group.
