Oh, true. Those bots were not clutter though, IMO.
Haha this thread is bringing back memories.

Nope. I was a kid around the 80s/90s and we had no dedicated computer teachers; although universities probably had access to those types of publications. That information was pretty niche in Australia for regular people, especially kids, and we were always at least 2 years behind the US on everything.
I don’t know what to tell you. It certainly wasn’t a word I or any one I spoke to used to describe programs.
No… Things literally were simpler back then as information moved a lot slower and the internet was far less privatised, if at all.
Your chat logs were saved to your own local drive, not a cloud, and you could delete them. Social media was just your web page you made for free on Geocities or Angelfire. Email spam was mostly chain mail. There were no bots whatsoever cluttering the internet. And so on.
And, FWIW, there were no such things as apps. Just programs. Apps started with the smart phone.
You reckon they’ll embalm him? Chuck him in a glass coffin and charge money to see him, and all that?

And far better for their physical and mental health.

Vintage story!

A friend’s 8 year old daughter was asking to play Roblox recently and they reached out to me since it’s in my current area of study and advised them against it due to the lack of responsibility that the corporation takes for their users.
I suggested that they introduce her to Vintage Story on a self hosted server instead. That way, they can control who has access and content.
I’m actually surprised at how many parents let their kids play Roblox unmonitored. I mean, why not let them go to the playground unmonitored instead?

There are luddites in every generation.
I dual boot. It’s so painful to go back to windows but some work related software doesn’t run at all in Wine. Perhaps I should VM W10 or W11.
I know. I was being facetious.
My latest one was rq.
I thought it was a typo.
It stands for ‘real quick’.

Heck, I have a tech literate friend who can’t handle Linux but I think if you’re willing to be tech support like my husband is for his parents, the transition is easier.

I didn’t realise thinking about work was work.
This is my friend. Had a Steam Deck and couldn’t figure out Steam OS so they installed Windows on it instead. He’s very tech literate but somehow can’t grasp Linux. On the other hand, I’ve transitioned fine to Linux Mint.
Maybe it’s Crony capitalism instead?
Hmmmm… I prefer cold fusion and astrum.
Maybe in America, but in most other places homelessness isn’t demonised nearly as much (also America is probably the only place that will make you homeless if you get seriously ill).
I think somewhere in the Nordic states, they’ve trialled UBI in an area and I think with success.
Edit: So the results are a mixed bag, as you would expect, but generally people were much happier with UBI.
Baby Button-Eyes, what are you doing posessed at this hour?
