  • I have been thinking about this for a while.

Would this actually diminish the false positive rate for the test? Would it just be more likely to get a true positive back?

Or maybe would the false negative result be less likely?

Does it depend on the sample group that was measured to get the accuracy statistics? If the sample group was random then does that actually make a difference?

  • The bespoke short-lived solutions angle is an interesting one, to be sure.

I wonder how many orgs will back themselves into a corner thinking their product will be short lived but it ends up hanging out for a while, as you mentioned.

Honestly this feels like an extension of this Agile/Scrum madness we’ve been dealing with since the mid-2000’s. Instead of the next quarter, we’re only building things with a view of the next two weeks.

Now it’s measured in hours, and even then we can give a prompt to an LLM and have a half working thing to throw away after it converts that PDF to a CSV.

I worry about the craftsmanship leaving this field. Engineers used to push back and for good reason.

Sure! Thanksgiving is principally a national holiday in the U.S. that traces its roots to religious and historical traditions from England, particularly during the early 17th century colonies in the New World.

It’s meant to be an autumn harvest holiday. The apocryphal story is that Puritans sat down with Native Americans to feast and celebrate goodwill between their respective groups but the evidence for this is suspect at best.

Over time, Thanksgiving became more popular and involves heavy travel during the (pre-) holiday season. It’s a chance for families to enjoy each others’ company before Christmas and feast on roast turkey and a variety of vegetable dishes.

Hope this helps! Go with God.

  • The constant distraction and availability resonate with me.

The main thing is to put in systems where you don’t need as much effort to handle daily business. Usually you can engineer your way out of high touch, multi-step process glue.

In my youth working manual labour jobs I was full of vinegar and wouldn’t wait for the trucking dolly. Older workers taught me to slow down and I took that advice into software work.
