And this is why the WSL1 filesystem was so damn slow. WSL2 uses a native ext4 filesystem (usually, you can format it to whatever)

I think part of that is caused by stupid turn signal designs that don’t stay in place, so to cancel a signal you have to push it in the opposite direction. And people can’t figure out how to get them to work properly.
What you described is definitely worse, but one of my pet-peeves is when drivers put their turn signal on AFTER slowing way down for their turn. It makes it seem like they’re just braking for no reason and might do something crazy like swerve across lanes.
The turn signal is meant to inform other drivers of your intentions before you make a move, not after.
Damn, that’s super annoying. My Ford truck has a similar feature, but at least it’s possible to turn it off permanently. I usually leave it on the “vibrate steering” / warning only mode, so if you’re distracted it’ll warn you but not actually take over.
When I first got it and was towing a trailer through some narrow curvy roads it was downright dangerous because I needed to cross the center line to stay on the road, and the truck was trying to steer me off the edge.
Most versions of their logo are a splat. I’ve never seen this version before.
I think The Onion has better taste than to joke about this topic.
Ironically the one thing computers are normally good at.
Less used than the Code key apparently. Their editor must crash A LOT if they need a dedicated button to launch it more than A or Space
I believe the lifecycle goes ExceptionLayer, ExceptionIncubator, ExceptionHatcher
It’s critical you don’t throw your exceptions too early, they need to learn to fly first 🤣
My biggest problem with it is that those aren’t verbs. You might have LegCount -> Countable
and FleaCount -> Countable
though.
Oh phew, I don’t have flowers on my blanket either. I guess I’m safe too. Otherwise I’m in exactly the same position as this meme, and that would make me have to think about my life choices.
I really enjoy programming, but generally I dislike cooking. I just want to eat, not spend time preparing to eat.
My experience with cooking has been that because I don’t do it enough, I’m constantly dealing with food expiration dates and having to plan carefully around them.
In comparison, I’ve got some servers that have been running maintenance free for 5+ years. (Probably not the most secure thing, but meh, I don’t have customers other than myself)
I think programmers often have hobbies that are more physical though. For me, I like working on my car because turning bolts and working with my hands lets my brain turn off for a while. I could see cooking and following a recipe being in the same category for others.
I envy your world, free of American politics.
It’s an extension that makes GitHub pages full width: https://github.com/xthexder/wide-github/
Admittedly the usefulness has gone down a little bit in the last couple years now that GitHub themselves have made code diffs and some other things full width by default.
When I first wrote this I had just gotten a giant 4K display at work and was really annoyed I still had to scroll left and right with the page only covering 1/3 of the screen.
Honestly the best thing about FOSS is that money isn’t driving all the decisions. Most open-source projects are built because the dev just wants to build something cool or useful, or they’re trying to solve specific problems. Most individual devs don’t really care if their user count goes up every quarter.
Personally I’ve been maintaining a chrome extension for about 10 years, and it’s sat happily with about 7000 users that entire time. I built it because I wanted to use it, and I’ve declined several offers to buy the extension and monetize it.
Since this is an opinion statement, you’re actually quoting the primary source right there!
The goal should be to have less uninformed people overall by educating the population. But unfortunately the people in charge keep voting against funding education (and basically anything beneficial to society).
Is there any country on earth that hasn’t at one point been involved in a land dispute?
Root’s home has been
