When they say it requires an HDMI to USB-C adapter if you don’t have an HDMI plug on your laptop, I’m surprised they didn’t just say an HDMI to USB-C cable instead, you don’t need a hub connected to your laptop plus an HDMI cable even if it’s an option, you can just get a cable with the right ends.

I’d call a cable with HDMI on one end and USB C on the other an HDMI to USB C adapter.
Dunno, when I hear an adapter I’m thinking something that you add in-between, requiring one more hardware piece than if no adapter is required 🤷
I would call that a converter
Probably because there are many laptops where such cables do not work. I went through 4 different brands before I found one that worked on my macbook.
