“What about capitalism is worth dying for?” “Don’t ask me, employee. You’re the one that’s going to be dying!”
P.E.B.C.A.K. Marking as resolved.
That’s my point. According to BMI, the likes of Dwayne Johnson are obese so that’s why it’s worth asking what standard of obesity the graph is referencing.
If BMI is bad for measuring individual health, why would it be at all good for measuring a large population?
Well obesity according to what metric? The notoriously outdated and inaccurate BMI?

We need a Lemmy dictionary so someone can finally clarify what people mean when they say “liberal”
Why not both?
Peace is something that must be earned, and the USA has not earned it. Ergo, trans rights via trans wrongs
It’s hard to call it war when the people being killed don’t fight back, I suppose
I appreciated The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for that reason. Gwen was falling so fast that when she was caught I honestly thought her neck snapped and I didn’t notice her skull hitting the floor
Catching and rolling is physically similar to landing on a curved vertical ramp and sliding down it. The motion is not altogether stopped but instead redirected. Rolling is like hitting a tiny tiny ramp so your velocity is redirected at a very high rate, but it’s still better than just instantaneously stopping
I think a good common one is explosions that throw people at least 10 feet without killing them. If the shockwave is strong enough to do that, isn’t it strong enough to tenderize and completely disable all of your internal organs as well?
There’s a scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home where Tom Holland is fighting the Green Goblin. Goblin grabs Spidey, jumps with him, and then they both smash through the 23rd or so floor of the apartment building they’re in and they land on the floor below.
Sure, they’re both super strong but neither of them used their strength to push through the floor. They just jumped and reached no more than like a foot off the floor, implying that gravity pulled them both through the floor. Okay, so the floor was built poorly, but then why did falling 10+ feet from the 23rd floor to the 22nd floor not make them smash through the 22nd floor?
That movie’s a lot of a fun but that scene makes me upset lol
When someone’s falling hundreds of feet and when they’re inches from the ground a super hero swoops in from the side to grab them.
Sure, they didn’t hit the ground but not only did you catching them slow down their vertical velocity just as fast as the ground would have, now you’ve accelerated them horizontally so fast that they’re now twice as dead as they would’ve been otherwise
Isn’t this practically the plot of The Nightmare Before Christmas?
P.S. I know it’s not, but it could be the plot of a gritty reboot. A bunch of Halloween mascots are fed up with how Christmas is overtaking all of fall so they declare “War on Christmas” I’d watch it. Unfortunately I imagine this would be like a Seth Rogan and James Franco movie a la Sausage Party but hey I’d still watch it
I agree. I need to further involve myself in informing more people
I do not feel good about voting for genociders. I feel fucking awful about it. But I know with absolute certainty that a democrat or a republican is going to be elected president, and yes democrats also defund schools but I’d way rather not have to start from square zero four years from now.
Not voting for Harris sends a message to the democrats that they are not championing human rights strong enough, and that supposedly ought to send their platform in the direction we want, correct? The more people who don’t vote for democrats, the stronger the message is so we should tell more people not to vote for democrats if I understand you correctly.
It should go without saying that if you tell enough people not to vote democrat, even in a deep-blue state, republican votes will win out. I’m not saying that’s a likely scenario, but why when I know people like you will opt not to vote, should I encourage other people anywhere to not vote and even get close to risking that? And before you say “like you said it’s not a likely scenario so there’s no risk” there is absolutely risk. We risk losing public funding for education and we risk further loss of human rights in our own backyard. I’m not sure why that thinking is “defective” but if there is a specific flaw in the logic please point it out.
I agree, but I don’t have that choice right now. The issue of genocide isn’t on the two-party ballot. The issue of public education is. Fewer educated people means fewer people who can even identify genocide when it happens.
“But what good is identifying genocide if you’re not gonna stop it”
HOW THE FUCK CAN I STOP IT?!?!?!?
Tell that to the billionaires speed-running terraforming this planet into a barren wasteland.
