This is a misinterpretation of a study on peasant life. It called certain religious days “holidays”. What it meant was those days were days they didn’t have to work for their lord. Peasants were obligated to work a certain number of days per year on the lord’s land. The other days they still had to work their own land. Agriculture was back breaking work and if you weren’t working in the fields you were constantly working on things like making cloth, repairing things, preparing food, etc.

There is nothing wrong with expecting rich, 1st world, countries to pay for their own defense. The US has been subsidizing them, and their generous social benefits in turn, for too long.

Decades of throwing money at the problem has shown that nothing changes. The money just goes down the drain.

In the meantime drug abuse ruins neighborhoods and they have a right to be protected.

They are just not arresting as many people and de facto legalizing more crimes. The NL is a hub for organized crime, drug trafficking and human trafficking.

They don’t have to pay for it and in a rapidly aging country with a very low birth rate they may not have enough people of military age to put together an army at this point.

Taiwan, the island occupied by Japan during the war then the nationalists ran off to it and declared themselves independent because Mao didn’t have a navy? Imagine if the republicans ran off to Hawaii and declared independence then China formed a military alliance with them.

Sorry but based on the Nippon Steel controversy we cannot trust Japan with a steel company so therefore we cannot trust them with advanced missile tech.

I agree. If the holocaust was unique then there is no need to say “never repeat it!” since it can’t be repeated if it is unique. History says otherwise. Like you said though, this isn’t some victimization competition but it is exceptional in its scale and industrialization.

It wasn’t unique in its goal but it was unique in its method. It was much more organized and industrialized than other genocides. Most were about bringing a group under control whereas the Holocaust was about eliminating a group.

People are tribal and need group identities
