Do not trust anything I write down. I have this horrible habit of not checking sources.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What's your opinion on Ubiquiti/Unifi gear?English
2·4 months agoI’m in the process of updating m homelab. Threw out the qnap nas, replaced it with a homebuild nas on Truenas (4x8TB HDD, 4x1TB SSD). Replacing my ubiquity edgerouter pro 8p with a Mikrotik hEX refresh. About a 10x speedup for throughput, 20x smaller, 1/4 power consumption. Next I’ll be looking to replace my edgeswitches. I can run them stand alone, so there’s no rush.
I am not going to buy myself deeper into ubiquity. I’ll just try to optimize for the current needs.
If you want true foss, run pfsense or opsense on your own hardware.
I was getting excited for the wrong reasons as well.

Opensource@programming.dev•Why are people surprised that opensource products have trouble competing with big tech?
3·9 months agoI like to think I’m all in on open source. It’s not true though. I use a few things with proprietary licenses (mostly work related), but I actively try to keep it to a minimum. I don’t need “the best”. I need things that work. And despite what so many people say or claim, open source does work and it is, for me at leas, good enough.
Open source developers and projects get my support.
Thank you

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I live in the green part (obesity map)English
84·2 years agoI understand it would be based on BMI, but the threshold for obesity varies per country. I remember the health ministry in my country increased the threshold for obesity from 24 to 25 in an attempt to decrease the obesity numbers.
Eventually, BMI only works for “regular” people and not for “sportive” people or “athletes” as muscle is heavier than fat. (A body builder may have a BMI of 26 with little to no fat)
