I hate Temu because the one time I tried to use it (was doing an ali order and wanted to compare), it told me I could get the item free if I downloaded the app and ordered it there.

That turned out to be a total lie, and instead some slot machine popped up and I was being pressured to like buy like 10 totally unrelated random things of literal junk quality (like cat toys and glitter markers and shit) within the next 2 minutes and I just gave up and went back to ali. I just wanted one thing, not do a TikTok haul video jeez

I don’t really downvote the bot too often, but YouTubers I watch have made me lump ground news in with nordvpn, raycons, hellofresh, factor, fuum, betterhelp, and the whole lot of influencer companies who probably have customer acquisition costs of $60+ and seem to survive, despite usually turning out to be junk. Anything advertised that way becomes garbage in my opinion.

What’s a computer?

I read a story on CBC the other day that was all about how an AI voice was taking over from hosts on off-hours at some local radio station, then deeper in the article it revealed that everything the “AI” reads was written by a human. So it was about someone using text-to-speech technology that has been around since at least the 70s the whole time. Hardly newsworthy in any way except for “IT’S AI!”

The more I think about it, the better I remember it. I think I’m going to watch it again.

Did anyone watch that show NEXT from the people who made 24? I might have been the only one, I’ve never seen anyone ever talk about it. There was a plot point where the evil Alexa tried to convince a kid who was being bullied to bring a gun to school and shoot his bully, and provided the kid with the keycode to dad’s gun safe… it was pretty wild.

I had to get a player without any internet access or camera awhile back to use while working with confidential information, and ended up getting a 2nd Generation Fiio X3. Was a bit expensive, but was the most recommended for the price at the time, was a lot cheaper than the Sony, B&O and Astell+Kern it was compared with in reviews, and still works well years later. I just use a microSD card reader to update it, there’s a driver to install if you want to use it as a DAC otherwise it’s not needed
