I rather like the shitpost bombardment. It’s the type of thing that creates a party vibe, and it could attract more than a few eyeballs to peek and linger. As the content can be somewhat dry in a community that’s just starting out, this helps to normalize the place, make it more familiar to visiting eyes.
This current shitposting challenge sure as hell beats a barrage of anti-reddit, anti-musk, anti-zuckerberg posts, as well as “how does this [Fediverse/instances/posting/etc] work?” dominating the All page.
I love the memes and shitposts. They’re lighthearted and fun, and entertaining. I’m not here looking for reddit just with less comment traffic, I’m here for the atmosphere and the community.
Just talking to/with real people is a huge plus, getting genuine opinions, good faith opinion/discourse, with little divisive content, and the “big” news hits my all feed just fine.
There’s plenty of avenues available to find conflict, controversy, drama, and walls of opinion to engage and enrage with elsewhere.
This place feels like a community where everyone is at least somewhat vested in contributing and making things better/more enjoyable for all, and in my opinion it doesn’t need to change or accomplish anything else
Exactly how I feel. Are they all good? No. But it feels like a party where everyone is just batting jokes around and most people are laughing. Then you have dan who is bored and keeps trying to change the conversation even though everyone else is having fun
You people are using the local/all feed?
Am I the only one who exclusively uses the subscription function?
Right now, for some of us at least, it’s kind of early days for watching subs only, my feed is kind of slow without being on All, and it helps me discover new communities.
This is exactly why I’m almost exclusively on All right now. If I only browsed my subscribed feed it would be, like you said, mostly dead.
I’m also using this as an opportunity to expand my horizons by trying communities I may not have seen or given a chance to on Reddit. It’s nice because overall Lemmy is a much nicer place to comment, so far, and I find myself being more willing to put my thoughts out there.
i mostly switch between subsribed and all depending on if i saw everything new in the other location and refreshed the page
It doesn’t matter if you’re subscribed to !memes@lemmy.ml (and !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone for good measure).
Block list is huge. Blocking whole instances is fantastic. Had to block so much gross fetish porn and tankie/fashie communities.
It’s fun, and I enjoy it, but it is a bit much. I unsubscribed and will view “All” when I want to see memes, then view “subscribed” when I don’t. I think it’s a pretty nice solution.
This is the way.
and look for communities on lemmyverse.net or https://browse.feddit.de/
Excuse me, it’s much more sophisticated than that. It’s more of a Dutch rudder situation.
