The AirBnB/VRBO owners in Seattle seem to think they hit pay dirt with the World Cup qualifier match there next month. I’ve had two hosts in a row claim they have ‘emergency repairs’ to do there that weekend (nearly two months after the day I booked) and demand that I cancel my reservation, so they can relist it at double the price.

I’m planning a birthday trip there that just happens to fall on the same day and it’s been a huge pain in the ass. One of the owners even called me pretending to work for VRBO then argue with me on the phone about why I need to cancel the reservation on my end. I spoke to customer service and forced the hosts to cancel in their end, which locks them out of relisting the property during that time. The above mentioned host had to claim “the property was sold,” according to my cancellation email, then presumably relist it under a new account but without any history or reviews.

Fuck the world Cup, fuck FIFA, fuck giving Nazis tourist dollars. At least a few people feel like their integrity is worth more than watching a game.

World Cup hasn’t started yet idk wtf they were expecting. On top of prices and inflation being out of control people are waiting as long as possible to buy. Airfare alone is up like 200%

They are expecting to be booked already is the issue. Reservations are not as high as they expected.

isnt it because of all the ICE RAIDS that have largely dropped from the msm, at least from LA because of the world cup. too late, people are already aware of it.

Why would anyone come here? Even white tourists have been detained. God forbid a person of color come here, they may not make it home.

    It’s not safe here.

Last time I was there, the yanks I was with saw a cockroach outside and freaked out by how big it was.

Here in Australia we call those small.

Also, it’s Denver, so I’m guessing safer than most states

Exactly. I’ve always wanted to come back to the US for another vacation, but I won’t. Not with the current government.

Honestly, as an American, who in the fuck would want to come here and risk being shot by an government representative or sent to an internment camp for watching football?

Why would anyone want to travel to a fascist police state run by pedophiles? How is that fun? They’ve already said they are going to have their state sponsored terrorist police at airports looking through your phone to make sure you support the fundamentalist colonialist state of Israel and their genocide and to make sure you support king pedo and the fuck around gang or you could just go on a vacation to literally anywhere else and not have to deal with this clown show

Given past sports washing events, people don’t care about that.

It seems to be a combination of extremely high ticket prices combined with a fear that ICE is going to disappear you when you’re traveling the country.

This is idiocracy in action. These kind of propaganda ops only work if you can stop the bad stuff you are doing for at least 5 minutes.

When the Saudi comedy festival circus was going on they didn’t imprison and or kill the comedians they paid to go there. They could stop for the metaphorical 5 minutes - the current US clown show is too stupid even for that.

Also with how fucking spread out the event is. You HAVE to use the airports, so you’re forced to go through ICE. Its not just coming in and out of the country.

Plenty of dictatorships around the world treat foreign tourists well enough. The special thing about the US is that they seem to be happy to treat even tourists like shit. For example “German tourists’ ordeal reportedly ending as they are returned from US detention”:

Jessica Brösche, a 29-year-old tattoo artist from Berlin, will reportedly join Lucas Sielaff, 25, from Bad Bibra in Saxony-Anhalt, who is reported to have returned to Germany on 6 March, after being arrested at the Mexican border on 18 February before being detained for almost two weeks.

The families of the two tourists, who were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), had compared their ordeals to “a horror film”.

I have to travel to 'Murica every few months

I’m loving the fact that the exchange rate has gotten better for me by a significant margin, that hotels are offering cheaper rates because they have rooms empty that would otherwise be full and that places are less busy with tourists

I feel for the people who didn’t vote for Trump, but for those who did, and for those who could have voted against him but didn’t, they can suck the farts right out of my arsehole

        My take is different.

Trump was in bed with the New York Mafia for decades. The real bosses stayed as far away from him as possible, sending their stooges to control him.

Trump had one really smart mentor, Roy Cohn. He ditched Cohn when Roy was diagnosed with AIDS.

Trump thinks that he’s a genius because he does scams like selling NFTs and golden sneakers to chumps.

A real boss would have quietly extorted $50 billion out of Saudi Arabia on Inauguration Day 2017 and then just been quiet.

We’re taking about someone who bankrupted four (4!) casinos. Some of them multiple times.

He might be a successful grifter (though that’s probably more due to luck and being a useful and extremely easy to buy or convince puppet than any kind of talent), but a shrewd businessman he’s most definitely not.
